WHAT IS CAP?
The Covenant Action Plan is the masterful idea
developed by Dr. E. Edward Jones, the 13th President
of National Baptist Convention of America, Incorporated.
The Covenant Action Plan or CAP, is the systematic
method of financing the objectives of the NBCA,
Inc., including its outreach ministries such as
HOME MISSION, FOREIGN MISSION, CHRISTIAN EDUCATION,
PUBLISHING, EDUCATION, EVANGELISM, BENEVOLENCE,
ORTHODOXY COMMISION, CHAPLAINCY COMMISSION AND SOCIAL
JUSTICE COMMISSION. All these ministries are outlined
in the GREAT COMMISSION by our Lord, Jesus Christ.
When systematically supported, CAP also enables
NBCA, Inc. to meet its obligations to PROFESSIONAL
CHURCH ORGANIZATIONS AND MEMBERSHIPS.
THE COVENANT ACTION PLAN is a financial commitment
between NBCA, Inc. and its member churches to pledge
and honor that pledge systematically by one of two
methods. The CAP plan calls for each member church,
association, state convention or any other affiliate
group or person to make monthly contributions or
contribute at the three (3) annual meetings based
upon their committed ability to give. A systematical
plan of giving such as CAP provides an opportunity
for wise and responsible stewardship of finances
at the national level. CAP even at its current level
of support, allows our Convention to work daily
in the cause of Christ rather than once or twice
a year. CAP will allow each board to implement the
objectives of the Convention rather than becoming
fundraisers for the Convention (if properly funded).
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Member churches pledging their commitment
to contribute by one of the methods listed in NBCA,
Inc.’s Plan of Financial Support can result
in a possible annual budget of more than $2,000,000.00
for National Baptist Convention of America, Incorporated.
WHAT AMOUNT SHOULD I PLEDGE?
The request is simply that the Pastor and/or
participating church select one of the methods outlined
in the NBCA, Inc.’s Plan of Financial Support
based upon their ability to give.
HOW CAN CAP HELP OUR CONGREGATION?
Churches benefit from the services offered
through the Convention Boards (these boards are
subsidized by CAP). The work of the Boards provides
for assistance to churches in distress, Christian
Education information, guidelines and seminars for
church growth. During scheduled meetings, Conventions,
institutes, workshops, etc., the exchange of ideas
and sharing the Gospel on the home and foreign fields.
Knowing that a portion of the CAP contributions
is dedicated to the cause of Foreign and Home missions
assures supportive churches that they are participating
in the fulfillment of stewardship responsibilities.
